Personal Statistics:
David Haase, 40 years old. Raised in Fond du Lac, WI. Received Bachelor's of
Arts from UW Oshkosh.
Family:
Mother Donna, Father Richard, and brother Dean, My mother Inspires me every day because of her hard and caring work at St. Francis Nursing Home. My Father has always pushed me to be successful at whatever I was trying to accomplish. My Brother, a former minor league catcher, inspires me
because given a chance, he can get whatever he wants.
Occupation:
Owner of Attitude Sports,
Inc., a bike, ski, skate, and snowboard shop focused on service and quality
products. Owning your own business is a 24-7 lifestyle, rather than a job. Like
RAAM, it is a
challenge.
Cycling:
I became an avid cyclist after college. I got into Mountain Bike racing and found something that pushed and challenged me beyond limits I thought possible. Ultra cycling has inspired me even more. It is Pure
freedom. Racing is the fuel that gets the freedom train moving.
RAAM 2004 - DNF at 2,540 Miles RAAM 2005 - 4th Place Overall -
Top American
RAAM 2006 - 4th Place Overall - Top American
24 Hours of Vail Lake (Mtn Bike) - 1st Place Overall
Race Across the Alps 2007 - 8th Place - Only American Finisher
Furnace Creek 508 2007 - 4th Place Overall
Why RAAM?:
I am not fast enough to do the Tour de France! RAAM is the most demanding cycling challenge! It challenges your fitness, your metal capabilities, and your body. I like that challenge. When people say things like "
You're crazy!" , "You're completely nuts!" and "You are an idiot!", you know that you are doing something pretty
special.
RAAM Goals:
In 2005, the goal was to finish, 2006 to finish strong. This year, my only goal is the top of
the podium.
Inspiration:
Many people have touched my life in different ways. When you ride 3000 miles you have time to reflect. Thanks to those pedaling
with me from the heavens, (Grandma Ginger, Gerard, and Molson). Thanks to those pedaling with me everyday, (Mom, Dad, Dean, The Staff at
Attitude Sports, and Shannon).
